Prague Blog

Prague was a fantastic place to spend two nights for a couple reasons. One, it is a beautiful city with so much to see and two, it is unbelievably inexpensive! Our kind of city : )

This photo pretty much sums up the feeling of Prague: Gorgeous surroundings with a huge crowd of people traveling in a mob from tourist sight to tourist sight.

Leading into the main square which, at the moment, was occupied by the amazing Easter Market.

Huge tower leading to the Altstadt.

The Prague metronome. Every city should have one, really.

View of the Altstadt from the Castle grounds.

The Charles Bridge connects the Altstadt to the castle grounds on the other side of the river. It is always, always packed with people. Can't blame 'em.

View of castle from bridge.

The Prague Astronomical Clock Tower in the main sqaure which keeps time in seconds, minutes, days, weeks and months. It also represents the position of the sun and moon in the sky.

Center stage of the Easter Market.

In front of the Museum of Natural History.

The Charles Bridge by night.

Some reastaurants along the river.

Evening walk along the river.

I know this is an awful picture but this is the castle lit up at night.
By the way, that castle is where President Obama was last week when he signed a new nuclear arms agreement with the Russian President called "New Start". If we'd have been there one week later we would have missed out on seeing the castle because it was closed off to all tourists during his stay.

Altstadt. Always crowded.

Clock tower behind the Easter Market.

Walking out of the Altstadt.

Okay, Czech pastries consumed a large portion of our time in Prague. The Easter Market was a dieter's nightmare. SOOOO much delicious fair food.

Below is one of many TRDLO stands (that is not an acronym, that is a prime example of the Czech language).

TRDLO's are lecker (delicious). We had many.

Trdlos are hot, sweet, amazing dough "grilled" and then rolled in cinnamon, sugar, honey and almonds. Incredible.

You can see how much I loved it. Don't worry, I wasn't double fisting, I was holding Sam's beer : )
Czech beer was great. They are known to have the best Pilsner in Europe. Sam would testify to that. Personally, I'm a Hefe Weisen girl.

Czech people drink more beer per capita than any other country in the world. One beer per person per day year round. Population, 1.9 million.

Now, my favorite part of Prague. The castle cathedral.

Some of the most stunning stain glass windows I have ever seen.

I loved it because of the bright colors and how small the individual glass pieces were.

That's all for the Prague blog. I really would reccommend making a stop there if anyone is ever in Europe. Mostly because of how cheap it was (1 czech crowne = 25 euro, we got beers for 1 euro and huge meals for 5 euro). We would have gone even if it weren't so cheap. Prague is known to be one of the most beautiful places in Europe!
