Dresden, lovely Dresden

We aboslutely adored Dresden. Unfortunately, we were only able to spend one night/two days there. Luckily our hotel happened to be right in the middle of the "Altstadt" (old town) which is right where we wanted to be. I think we got to see most everything we wanted to, we could have just spent a week soaking it all up.

Sam was an excellent tour guide (much thanks to Rick Steves).

With Sam walking around reading a travel book and me taking pictures, we were the epitomy of tourists. Surprisingly, we made it through the whole week without being pick pocketed (which is all too common in the high touristy sections of Germany).

Here are the stairs up to the city terrace. A great spot for a good view of Dresden and the Elbe river.

The terrace was lined with museums, shops and restaurants. Hard to walk on by but we were in a time crunch.

Looking across the river to the "Neustadt" of Dresden (new town).

Altstadt behind us.
Spring has arrived and we were lovin' the green grass and flowers everywhere!
The river is always lined with ships, river cruises and tour boats mostly.

The big lit-up building on the right of the bridge is the beautiful Hoff Kirche (church).

Some close-ups.

And by day.

This is the entrance to the Zwinger Palace. Where "Augustus the Strong" held outdoor balls and other important gatherings.

A 360 view of the inside...

Outside the Palace is the Opera house.

We weren't allowed inside but the outside was very impressive.

This was our favorite part of Dresden, the Frauen Kirche. It was destroyed in WWII but it was rebuilt and I must say it is the most gorgeous and intricate church I have been in (and we have been a lot of churches over here).

Had to get a shot with the Martin Luther statue in front.

I was so dissapointed we were not allowed to take pictures inside. The colors, designs, sculpting, and displays were incredible.
However, we were able to climb the stairs to the top of the dome and get an amazing bird's eye view of the city.

Dresden is one of my favorite places we've traveled so far. Prague is also up there and will be the next blog!
